Unique Options for Cremated Remains

Did you know that a single unit of donated blood can save up to three lives? Yet the American Red Cross is currently facing a huge shortage of available supplies due to an unprecedented number of blood drive cancellations in the past few months. There is an urgent need for blood donors of all blood types to give now, and we at Morrissett Funeral & Cremation Service want to help. Therefore on Friday, June 26, from 10am to 4pm we will be hosting a Red Cross blood drive at our location on 6500 Iron Bridge Road.

Our staff, as well as the Red Cross employees, will be following enhanced safety & sanitization protocols (you can view them at this link) to ensure the health & well-being of all those who attend. Masks are required, as per the recent statewide mask mandate. Only blood donors will be permitted into the event, so if someone comes with you who is not a donor they will need to wait in the car. The number of donors that are in the building at the same time will also be limited, and we will make sure that a safe distance is maintained between those donors as they give blood.

To help us achieve proper safety protocols we ask that all prospective donors sign up for a time slot on the American Red Cross website RedCrossBlood.Org using the sponsor code morrissett. No walk-ins will be permitted.

Here is some additional information from the Red Cross website:

To donate blood, individuals need to bring a blood donor card or driver’s license or two other forms of identification that are required at check-in. Individuals who are 17 years of age in most states (16 with parental consent where allowed by state law), weigh at least 110 pounds and are in generally good health may be eligible to donate blood. High school students and other donors 18 years of age and younger also must meet certain height and weight requirements.

Donors can also save up to 15 minutes at the blood drive by completing a RapidPass®. With RapidPass®, donors complete the pre-donation reading and health history questionnaire online, on the day of donation, from a mobile device or computer. To complete a RapidPass®, follow the instructions at RedCrossBlood.org/RapidPass or use the Red Cross Blood Donor App.

All those who donate will receive a $5 Amazon gift card by email as a small token of appreciation for their generosity.

Morrissett is proud to have the opportunity to support the American Red Cross and our community by helping provide the gift of life. This event is part of our ongoing celebration of our 150th year in operation. Each month in 2020 we will continue to host a community-based event as part of our ongoing efforts to say thank you for your continued trust in us. It is our honor to serve our community and the families that live in it.
