Obituary

Sykes, Arline Taylor, 81, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, March 30, 2010. She was born on October 6, 1928, in Chesterfield County, to Robert Clyde Taylor and Florence Virginia Woodley. She attended Broad Rock School and John Marshall High School, and was a member of Branchs Baptist Church for over 50 years. Arline enjoyed a career in data processing with Chesterfield County, and when she retired, the Board of Supervisors commended her for extraordinary service. She was married to Robert K. Sykes (Bobby) for 54 years and lost the love of her life when Bobby passed away in 2005. Arline waged a six-year battle with breast cancer with inspiring courage and dignity. She is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law, Vanessa and Jesse Crews, and Donna and Chris Brightman; a son, Robert K. Sykes, Jr. and spouse, Donna Hancock. Arline dearly loved her nine grandchildren, Brian, Sarah, Mikey, and Andrew Crews, Lora, Amy, and Jon Brightman, Heather, and Ashley Sykes. Florence Ann Aders is her only surviving sibling, along with many nieces and nephews. Arline was preceded in death by siblings Blanche Morrissett, Ellen Godsey, Raymond Taylor, and Norman Stover Taylor. The family will receive friends at 1 pm Friday at Morrissett Funeral Home, 6500 Iron Bridge Road (Rte. 10). A funeral service is scheduled for Friday at 2 pm. Interment will follow at Dale Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, please make memorial contributions to the Chesterfield County Historical Society, P.O. Box 40, Chesterfield, VA 23832.
