Obituary

Barbara Lee Stargardt, of Chester, Virginia, passed away peacefully at home with her daughter on May 18, 2026, at the age of 87. She was born on January 31, 1939, to Walter Lee and Mary Wells Lee in Richmond, Virginia.

Barbara attended Manchester High School where she was a majorette. In 1958, she married Stuart S. Stargardt Sr. Together they had four children and remained happily married until Stuart’s passing in 2009.

Barbara worked for Chesterfield County Schools, as a teacher’s assistant, for many years. She absolutely loved her students and coworkers. After retirement, she could always be found out in the yard. She took great pride in making sure her lawn and flower beds were perfect, and all the squirrels, rabbits and chipmunks were fed. Barbara was also known for making pound cakes for the neighbors and she never met a cake she didn’t like.

Barbara is preceded in death by her parents, her loving husband, brother; Eugene Lee, and children; Stuart S. Stargardt Jr. and Debbie Stargardt.

Barbara is survived by her daughter, Brenda Stargardt and her son Scott Stargardt, grandchildren; Tiffiny Reed, Taylor Reed, Courtney Bankoski, and Justin Stargardt, several great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews.

A celebration of the wonderful life of Barbara will be held at a later date.
