Obituary

Lunsford ‘Benjamin’ Orcutt passed away on November 27, 2017 at Carillion Hospital in Roanoke, Virginia. He was born on February 6, 1934 in Richmond, Virginia to the late Thelma Goode Orcutt and Jonathan Cheatham Orcutt. Ben graduated from Hargrave Military Academy and Mars Hill University. He followed in his father’s footsteps and became a plant manager for St. Joe Paper Company, International Paper, Box USA, and spent most of his career with Stone Container Corporation. He loved the corrugated box industry and the many friends he made through the years. Ben’s favorite times were spent with his family and friends, remembering the good times they all shared together. He also loved woodworking, gardening, his beloved dogs, Babe, Max, Cotton, and Smoke, and was a faithful member of Second Baptist Church in Laurens, South Carolina, and McCabe Baptist Church in Martinsville, Virginia. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Cecil Orcutt Firesheets, and his brother-in-laws, Forest Firesheets and Wilton Ford, all of Richmond, Virginia. He is survived by his wife of 27 years, Linda Bradley Orcutt; children, Cindy O’Rear (Bobby), Jon Orcutt (Beth), Mark Orcutt (Kate), all of Laurens, South Carolina, Kim Thomas of Greer, South Carolina, and Mindy Bradley of Ringgold, Virginia; honorary children, Mark Allred, Rev. David Richardson, Zale Ingle, and Tony Hammett; sister, Christy Lee Ford of Richmond, Virginia, and thirteen grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren. The family received friends on Monday, December 4, 2017, at Morrissett Funeral and Cremation Service, 6500 Iron Bridge Rd., North Chesterfield, Virginia. A celebration of Ben’s life followed the visitation at 12 noon. Interment followed at Skinquarter Baptist Church Cemetery, Moseley, Virginia. A memorial service was held at a later date in Laurens, South Carolina. Ben gave faithfully to the Wounded Warrior Project to honor the men and women who gave us our freedom and to St. Jude Children’s Hospital to aid the research for child-related illnesses. Memorial contributions were requested to be made to the Wounded Warrior Project, P.O. Box 758517, Topeka, KS, 66675, or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN, 38105.

  1. Linda and family,I was so sad to hear of Ben’s passing. He and I had a great friendship in our careers at St. Joe Paper Co. and in later years as International Paper Co.
I appreciate so much that he called me recently and told me he owed me an apology for not contacting me when my husband
    passed away November 14, 2014.
May your wonderful memories bring you peace and consolation as you transition through this difficult time.
