Obituary
Bernard D. “Bernie” Nuckols, Jr. (87) of Richmond, Virginia went to be with the Lord on Friday, April 3, 2026. He was preceded in death by his parents, Bernard D. Nuckols, Sr., Betty P. Nuckols, and sister, Nancy Lee Harrell. Bernie is survived by his daughters, Renee Oliva (Jack) and Sherry Mueller (Chris); grandchildren Brent Oliva (Laura Lee), Kyle Oliva (Amanda Mercer), Cameron Oliva (Ashley), Christopher Mueller, Jr. (Hannah), Coleman Mueller (Tess), Ivan Mueller (Kaitlyn), and Tilden Mueller; great-grandchildren, Natalie Oliva, Adeline Oliva, Easton Oliva, Molly Oliva, Hayleigh Oliva, and Marina Mueller. He is also survived by his long-time love, Linda Durrett.
Bernie proudly served his country in the United States Air Force as an airplane mechanic. After leaving the service, he began his career with Snap-on Tools in 1965 and finally retired in 2004. Not being satisfied with retirement, he started his own business “The Tool Box Man” and began moving toolboxes for mechanics, dealerships, and numerous Snap-on dealers.
Bernie loved racing…all kinds of racing. Car racing was a life-long passion of his. From street racing, to the drag strip or local short track he could always be found in the pits helping good friends and family.
The family will receive guests from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm with the funeral service beginning at 12:00 pm on Wednesday, April 15 at Parkway Baptist Church, 8508 Beaver Bridge Road, Moseley, VA 23120. Graveside service will follow at Evergreen Cemetery, 6870 Old Evergreen Rd., Appomattox, VA 24522.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in his name to the Wounded Warrior Project https://www.woundedwarriorproject.org/
