Obituary

Bettie Mintz Bolton (86), a beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, went to be with the Lord on June 16, 2025, surrounded by her devoted grandchildren. Bettie was born on November 8, 1938, in North Carolina and spent her life embodying the values of love, generosity, and kindness. She was a steadfast follower of her faith, cherishing her relationship with God and instilling those values in her family.

Bettie dedicated her career as a school bus driver, specializing in special education, where she touched the lives of many children and their families with her tender heart and unwavering compassion.

A talented seamstress and passionate gardener, Bettie found joy in the simple pleasures of life. She had an innate ability to cultivate beauty, whether through flowers in her garden or the warmth of her home. Inside her home, Bettie was known to create a delicious meal, especially her butterbeans, okra, biscuits, sweet tea, and banana pudding. She was an avid crocheter and created many amazing gifts for her family and friends.

Bettie’s love for traditional gospel hymns resonated deeply within her, often filling her surroundings with melodies of hope and faith. Her dedication to the church was deep and she will be greatly missed by her church family.

Bettie was preceded in death by her husband, Lonnie Bolton; parents, William and Muriel Mintz; son, Bennie Bolton; daughter, Rhonda Bolton; and brother, Charles Mintz. Bettie is survived by her children, Edward Bolton (JoAnne), Francis Bolton (Juliet), Theresa Dragonas (John), Kenneth Bolton, and Keith Bolton; spiritual daughter, Patty Fowlkes; 13 grandchildren, numerous great grandchildren, and 3 great-great grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister, Faydean Dale, and brother, Bill Mintz. Her legacy of love and support will forever remain in the hearts of all who knew her.

Her devoted granddaughters, Susan Reed and Shelly Bolton, made sure Bettie’s last wishes were fulfilled and she was able to remain in the comfort of her own home, surrounded by loving family members, until her final days.

In honor of her life and the countless ways she made our world a better place, Bettie’s Celebration of Life will take place on Wednesday, June 25 at Clover Hill Baptist Church, 3100 Old Courthouse Rd., N. Chesterfield, VA 23236. The family will receive guests from 11:30 am-12:30 pm and her funeral service will follow at 12:30 pm. Graveside service will be held at Dale Memorial Park, immediately following the service. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in her name to Clover Hill Baptist Church.

Though she may have departed from our sight, her spirit and legacy will forever remain with those who were fortunate enough to have known her. She will be missed dearly, but we find solace in knowing that she lived a life guided by the Golden Rule and surrounded by love.
