Obituary
Bobby Joe Powell, Sr., 82 of Chesterfield, Virginia went to be with the Lord on Saturday, September 27, 2025, in North Chesterfield, VA. He was born on August 17, 1943 in Morganton, NC to the late Clyde William Powell and Veria Mae Powell. He is preceded in death by his beloved wife, Mary Elena Powell; son, Jimmy Ray; daughters, Laura Lisa Powell and Toniette Elane; brothers; Carl Monroe Powell and Ronnie Dean Powell; sisters Brenda Faye Mathews and Gwendolyn Mae Harrison.
Bobby is survived by his sons, Bobby Joe Powell, Jr. and John David Fort; grandsons, William Michael Powell and Bobby “B.J.” Joe Powell, III; granddaughters, Tabitha Elane Webster and Serena Rayne Camlibel; great-grandsons, William Micahael Powell and Andrew Issac Powell; brothers, Clyde “Bubber” William Powell Jr., Lary James Powell, and Michael Robert Powell; sister, Linda Kay Coy; and numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family members.
Bobby spent his entire life working in the retail grocery business as a dedicated and hardworking manager, known for his reliability and strong work ethic. Even after retirement, his passion and commitment led him to continue working, always staying active and involved. Bobby was the kind of man who took care of everyone-family, friends, and even those he barely knew-offering help, kindness, and a steady presence. He was a loving husband, devoted father, proud grandfather and great-grandfather, cherished brother, and caring uncle. His life was a true example of selflessness, love, and quiet strength, leaving behind a legacy that will be remembered by all who were lucky enough to know him.
His memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 18, 2025 at Morrissett Funeral & Cremation Service, 6500 Iron Bridge Road, North Chesterfield, VA 23234. Interment to be held at a later date at the Walters Family Cemetery, 2074 Princess Ann Road, Orrum, NC 28369. Please check this website for updates on services.

Bob… I can’t believe you’re gone my friend! I had the pleasure and honor of working with you for the past 6 1/2 years. You were my coworker and my friend. I could always count on you. We had many conversations about loved ones and family and problems and worries and joys and celebrations…all of the things that make up a life. I often pick up the phone to say hello and see how you’re doing. I see something on Facebook and think “oh Bob would enjoy this” and then I remember that I can’t send it to you anymore. But you are with your dear, sweet wife that you loved so much… And the children that you had to bury, which broke your heart.💕. I know you’re looking down from up there and worried about those you left behind, wanting in your way to take care of them even from your place in heaven. Rest easy my friend.
