Obituary
Bonné Morgan Mahler left her earthly home on October 9, 2023. She was born in Danville, VA to James Powell Morgan and Dean Luther Morgan on July 27, 1948. Bonne’ was preceded in death by her husband of 49 years, George Lewis Mahler; her parents, James Powell Morgan and Dean Luther Morgan.
Those left to cherish her memory include her children, Jonathan, Leah Mahler Bowles (Kevin), one grandson Carter Lane Bowles, and one brother, Rev. James P. Morgan Jr. (Mary Dale). Bonne’ graduated from East Carolina University with degrees in speech and drama. In her early career she taught Children’s Theatre at Averett University in Danville, VA and at Paul D. Camp Community College in Franklin, VA. She was also an actress and director with the Franklin Little Theatre. Coming to Richmond, she worked at the Richmond Times Dispatch and Media General for 27 years in Human Resources where she made special lifelong friends especially Debi Stonecipher and Alice Rodriguez. Upon retirement she taught for 5 years as a substitute teacher at Amelia County Schools and she taught Sunday School for a number of years. Bonné was infamously known as the ‘Money Lady’ for Wednesday night dinners at Branch’s Baptist Church and sang in the choir. She was also a gifted seamstress and made beautiful smocked dresses for her daughter. When asked what her greatest accomplishment in life was, it was her children.
The family would like to express their gratitude to Bonne’s special friend & caretaker Rhonda Hines and to thank Crater Community Hospice for their special consideration and care. Her body is resting at Morrissett Funeral Home. The visitation will be held on Tuesday, October 17, 2023 from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. followed by a graveside service at Sunset Memorial Park at 1:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Parkinson’s Foundation.

The family and friends are in my prayers! I knew Bonne and George from Creekwood neighborhood, Branch’s Baptist and Swift Creek Community Church. One of my fondest memories is the visit to lake house with SC3 youth group. Rest in Peace!

Bonne was a wonderful lady, a good friend and neighbor, and she is gone way too soon. Bonne and George were so kind and generous to share their place at the lake with us on many occasions. She was also a person of faith and leadership, helping us start Swift Creek Community Church back in 2001. The result was that many people found the Lord and heaven and earth are richer as a result. God be with Leah, Jonathan, and the rest of the family and friends as her passing is mourned. Remember that we have heaven to look forward to together someday.
