Obituary

Brenda Banes Byrd (71), born on October 22, 1953, passed away peacefully on August 29, 2025. She was the beloved wife of Maxwell P. Byrd and is survived by her children: Sandra Byrd Cross, Michelle Byrd Harris(Lee), and Brian Byrd (Jodi).

Brenda was a devoted Mom Mom to six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her sister Lois Banes Fleet, as well as her parents, Phyllis Browder Banes and Melvin “Boonie” Banes.

She is also survived by her sister, Carol Banes Seay and several nieces and nephews. She also left behind a beloved friend, Jan Westbrook.

The family will be holding a private memorial service, and in lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the American Cancer Society.

Brenda will be remembered for her kindness, her quick wit, her love of coffee, owls and her passionate support of the Washington Commanders. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her.

  5. I never thought I would see this day! You were the best mummum. You accepted me and the kids as your own and we had many happy memories. From 2003 to 2018, you helped with 2 weddings, great grands, and you were always a spunky fighter, rooting for the under dog. I know you are resting in peace finally with Jesus. I’m sure you know how much you are loved and missed. I’ll see you when I get to the grand kingdom. I know you are happy to see your daddy. Love always Emm
