Obituary

Catherine Robertson Spencer, 75, of South Chesterfield, VA went to be with the Lord on Friday, August 29, 2025. She was born on November 24, 1949 in Petersburg, Virginia to the late Wilbur and Alice Cardwell. She is preceded in death by her beloved husband, Walter Stanbury Spencer, Jr.; her first husband, Howard Robertson; and daughters, Kimberly and Tracy Robertson.

Catherine is survived by her daughter, Emily Moneymaker (Shawn); son, Chris Spencer (Shana); grandsons, Austin Spencer and Jacob Moneymaker; granddaughters, Caitlin Spencer and Irelyn Spencer; brothers, Jerry Cardwell (Carol) and Larry Cardwell (Brenda); and numerous cousins, nieces, nephews and beloved friends.

Cathy was a devoted member of Wesley Chapel United Methodist Church, where she taught preschool Sunday school with love and dedication. She served as an instructional assistant and office manager at Matoaca Elementary School for over 35 years, touching the lives of countless students, families, and colleagues. Cathy deeply loved her family, including her grandchildren, who brought her immense joy. She also had a special fondness for the beach, where she found peace and happiness. Cathy cherished the lifelong friendships she shared with her neighbors and friends, who were like extended family to her. Their love, support, and shared memories were a treasured part of her life.

A visitation will be held from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. followed immediately by her celebration of life at 12:00 p.m. on Tuesday, September 9, 2025 at Wesley Chapel United Methodist Church, 9227 River Rd, South Chesterfield, VA 23803. Her interment will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, September 9, 2025 at Southlawn Memorial Park, 1911 Birdsong Rd, Petersburg, VA 23805.
