Obituary

Cathy Fears Peace, age 73, of Chesterfield County, VA, was welcomed into Heaven by her Lord and Savior on the morning of Friday, June 27, 2025. Cathy was one of his strongest, and most faithful warriors, and she fought for life, and those she loved, until the very end. She passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her family that she dedicated her life to caring for.

Cathy was a devout member of Salem Baptist Church, where she gave her life to Jesus, and served on both the Women’s Ministry and Children’s Ministry, including the nursery. She will always be remembered for her depth of love, her unshakeable faith, her gift for writing prayers, and her many different fashion statements.

Outside of church, Cathy loved to create. She was an avid reader, storyteller, and artist, who was humble, but had great aspirations. If she wasn’t reading, or studying her Bible, she could be found painting, sketching, or making her own jewelry. In fact, she enjoyed painting animals and landscapes, and sketching portraits of people that she said she met in her dreams.

Cathy was a tomboy at heart, and had a passion for the great outdoors, which included her love for animals (especially kitties) and tending flower gardens (her favorite flowers being hibiscus and peppermint roses). In this respect, she took after her mother, but she was also very hands-on, and do-it-yourself like her father. She loved working with tools, and fixing things, and when she couldn’t fix something, she had this ability to create something new with the broken pieces, but that’s who she was as a person.

Cathy’s memory will live on through the lives that she touched, and she will forever be in our hearts, just as we were in hers.

Cathy was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph Benjamin Fears and Lucille Hass Fears; her husband, Lionel Edwin Peace (separated), many aunts, uncles, cousins, and her kitty companion, Bandit. She is survived by her sister, Linda Fears Cochran (Putt); her daughter, Crystal Peace Acors (Thomas); her grandson, James Thomas Acors Jr; her church family; and Marie Gunn, who was her “bestest friend.”

The family will receive guests from 1:00-2:00 pm with her funeral service to follow at 2:00 pm on Thursday, July 3 at Salem Baptist Church, 5930 Centralia Rd., N. Chesterfield, VA 23237. A reception will immediately follow. The family asks that anyone planning to attend the reception to bring a covered dish of their choice. A private graveside service will be held in Burkeville, VA.
