Obituary

Connie Etheredge, 76, of Chesterfield, VA passed away on Tuesday, May 19, 2026. She was preceded by her sister, Dixie Hute, and parents, Lyle and Helen Hute. Connie is survived by her husband of 54 years, Dennis Etheredge; daughters, Amanda Etheredge (Brad) and Crystal Etheredge; granddaughters, Brooke King and Madison Hayes and close friends and in-laws John and Leslie Etheredge.

Connie was born and grew up in small agricultural communities in Eastern Iowa. Growing up she enjoyed participating in sports and school and community clubs. As a teenager she also began working, jobs packing raw eggs and later in a Drug Store. After graduation she started attending Iowa State University.

She then got married and moved to the Richmond Area and began working again, first for a Beer distributor then for the predecessor of SunTrust Bank in the bankcard dept working her way up to Supervisor/ Manager.

Connie also got involved in the Big Sister program and met Beverly and a new friend – providing a stable point of reference.

Next came her daughters as they developed their own personalities and interests, she left the corporate world and enjoyed being a MOM. She got involved in supporting their activities, competitive Cheerleading, softball and Swimming. Connie soon began coaching and Directing cheering and scorekeeping for softball. After she became a Grandma and the granddaughters got involved, she supported them as they tried different activities.

As Connie lost mobility, she continued to enjoy life and could be seen on her Fiery Red scooter wherever her family and interests took her. Her smile, approachable personality and scooter made her many friends. Her favorite holidays were Christmas and Halloween.

Outside her family enjoyed watching her Atlanta Braves on TV or going to the Diamond to watch the Richmond Braves and later the Flying Squirrels and attending live music shows at many locations around the Richmond area. Her love of music included country, jazz/blues, folk – American and Irish.

A memorial gathering will be held from 5:00-7:00 pm on Wednesday, May 27 at Morrissett Funeral & Cremation Service, 6500 Iron Bridge Rd., N. Chesterfield, VA 23234.

    I’m so sorry to hear of the passing of Connie. I remember game nights, learning Cherokee rummy, going to the beach while growing up. My mom and dad enjoyed many adventures with both Connie and Dennis. Sending you all love, Dennis, Amanda and Crystal.
