Obituary

Corwyn Aubrey Booker Jr was born in the Bronx, NY on April 17, 1975. He passed away peacefully in his sleep on June 15, 2019. He was raised in Virginia Beach, where he found his calling to serve his country and joined the Navy in 1994 as an Aviation Ordnanceman. While in the service, he was deployed multiple times as part of a carrier strike group to the Middle East.

He left active duty and went into the Navy Reserves in 2006 when he joined the Richmond Police Department. He served the community as a police officer for 10 years and was named RPD’s Officer of the Month in July 2015.

On April 17, 2016, he re-enlisted into Active Duty as a Master-At-Arms Petty Officer First Class. He immediately got Forward Deployed overseas. Not only did MA1 Booker serve passionately as a mentor to all of his junior sailors, he took pride in supporting his leaders. He made a lasting impact on everyone he interacted with, from the citizens of Richmond while serving as a Richmond Police Officer, to all Sailors, junior or superior, and to all of his family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his son Desmond, Henrietta Scawarha, and Uncle Charles. He is survived by his wife, Loretta; four children, Marquell, Ayden, Gabriel, and Natalia; his loving mother, Evelyn Schwarha; father Corwyn Sr.; stepmother, Deborah; brothers, Andre, Kenny, and Faheem; sisters, Sheena and Nicole; and numerous nieces, nephews, and godchildren.

Friends may visit from 4-7 pm with remembrances being shared at 6 pm on Friday, July 5th at Morrissett Funeral and Cremation Service, 6500 Iron Bridge Rd. N. Chesterfield, VA. Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 4 pm on Saturday, July 6th at St. Peter’s Catholic Church, 800 E. Grace St. Richmond, VA.
