Obituary
Gunnery Sergeant (GYSGT) David Clyde (Big David) Glasgow, was born September 9,1953, in Washington D.C. to the late Clyde Glasgow and Lillie Mae Glasgow. He departed this life on September 26, 2023. He accepted God as his personal savior and when it was time, our heavenly God called Big David home at Chippenham Hospital. He was united in holy matrimony to Anna Lee Parham in May 1990, and this union was blessed with two children.
GYSGT Glasgow was a U.S. Marine Corps soldier from July 1972 to August 1993 and retired after 21 years of active duty service. He then transitioned to civilian life and worked as a military ammunitions instructor for the U.S. Government until he retired in 2016. While serving in the military he received many recognitions: National Defense Service Medal (1 star), Good Conduct Medal (6 stars), Meritorious Mast (4TH AWD), Sea Service Deployment Ribbon (2 stars), Marine Corps Expeditionary Medal, Navy Unit Commendation (1 star), Letter of Appreciation (2D AWD), Certificate of Commendation Army Achievement Medal, Army Commendation Medal, and Humanitarian Service Medal. Upon his retirement he was able to enjoy many of the things such as talking about politics, computers, and technology. Big David was a quiet man, but he was a “gentle giant” and well known throughout his community for his willingness to help anyone and everyone he came in contact with; and he was loved by many.
He is preceded in death by his wife of 28 years, Anna Lee Glasgow; parents, Clyde Glasgow, and Lillie Mae Glasgow; brother, James T. Glasgow (JT) and sister, Gloria J. Glasgow; brothers-in-law Thomas Parham, John Parham, Lee (Dunk) Parham, and Calvin Parham; and sister-in-law, Lulu Parham.
He departed this life with dignity and God’s grace with his loving family at his side. He leaves to cherish his memory his devoted daughter and son, Gezelle B.L. Glasgow of Chester, VA, and David C. Glasgow II (Whitney) of Huntsville, AL: six grandchildren who referred to him as “Papi”, Nyomi Glasgow, Avery Glasgow, Desirae Matthews-Glasgow, Ayden Davis-Glasgow, Neytiri Matthews-Glasgow, and Uzziah Matthews-Glasgow. As well as three sisters-in-law, Novice Baker (Joe) of Huntsville, AL, Linda Parham of Memphis, TN, and Doretha Glasgow (James) of Roundhill,VA; one brother-in-law, James (Ruby) Parham of Madison, AL; and a host of nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and cousins.
Semper Fi, Soldier. You can rest now Dad.
