Obituary

Holmes, David Lee, 46, of Chesterfield, was suddenly called home to be with our Heavenly Father on Friday, November 28, 2008. He lived life to the fullest and enjoyed going to the beach as often as he could. He was an excellent cook who added a special touch to every dish he made. He loved classic cars and beach music. He was preceded in death by his mother, Martha Hagan Holmes. Left to cherish his memory are his father, Delmar L. Holmes; his sister, Donna Ledford and her husband, Richard; his brother, Mark Holmes and his wife, Elizabeth; a niece, Sarah and five nephews, Jeremy, Caleb, Aaron, Cameron and Collin. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 pm Monday at the Morrissett Funeral Home, 6500 Iron Bridge Rd. (Rt. 10). A funeral liturgy will be held 11 am Tuesday at the funeral home. Interment to follow in Dale Memorial Park. He was taken from us too soon and will remain in our hearts and minds forever.

  1. Delmar and family, it was good seeing each of you again last night, though I deeply regret the circumstances. David and I did not keep up with one another as we probably should have. But, he was always with me integrally interwoven in the fabric of who I am. I was explaining to my wife that, when I tell her all those stories of the crazy, stupid and/or fun stuff I did as a kid -burning the woods down, catching tadpoles, crawdads and salamanders going fishing along the railroad tracks, pulling bottles out of the ditch so I could get the deposit money and buy a comic book and/or Slurpee at 7-11, camping in the shed in back of your house playing cards and listening to music most of the night, etc. – while I always talked about those things in terms of "I" did this or "I" did that, it was never really "I". It was always "We". David was my best friend growing up and will remain with me always.
    God bless you always.

My thoughts and prayers are with the entire family. I cannot beleive he is gone, yet I know he is in a more peaceful place. I have many fond memories of David and all these years later, I am still grateful that I shared my life with this family, even if for a short while. I will always cherish the best parts of David.
