Obituary

David Pete Watts Martin, 87, of Richmond, passed away peacefully at his home with his family at his side on Thursday, February 13, 2014. He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Betty Lohr Martin; his daughter, Melinda M. Crafton (Tim); and his devoted nephews, David R. Cosby (Sandee) and Richard H. Cosby (Nancy) and many faithful friends. Pete was a retired assistant city clerk for the City of Richmond and was a noted second baseman for the City Employee Softball League, winning the City Championship twice in the 1980s. He was a fan of the NY Yankees, the Washington Redskins, and followed most Virginia college teams. He proudly served in the US Navy during WWII as a Signalman 3rd Class in the Pacific Theater. He was a member of Weatherford Memorial Baptist Church and was a 54-year Mason with Manchester Masonic Lodge #14, AF and AM. The family will receive friends on Sunday from 2 to 4 p.m. at Morrissett Funeral and Cremation Service, 6500 Iron Bridge Rd. (Rte. 10). His funeral will be held at 2 p.m. on Monday in the chapel in Sunset Memorial Park, Chester, VA. The family would like to thank Hospice of Virginia and staff of Hunter Holmes McGuire Veterans Hospital. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial contributions be made to Hospice of Virginia, 1700 Bayberry St., Suite 300, Richmond, VA 23226 or the Wounded Warrior Project, P.O.
