Obituary

David Wesley Evers, III, 62 years of age, passed away on Monday, September 16, 2024, at Chippenham Hospital in Richmond. That was it, this was your only opportunity to be enlightened by his vast wealth of all things mechanical and technical. If you didn’t know him, you missed out. Want to know how to rebuild a VW Beetle engine in your kitchen? Too bad. Planning to pull down a shed with your mini-van and need advice? You’re out of luck. Did you own shares in Coca-Cola? Bad news: stock is about to plunge. Do you intend to bring home a water heater or large mattress strapped to the top of an 80’s era Hyundai? Tough, you’re on your own now.

David attended Mississippi State University, where he met his wife, Judy. Judy knew a good thing when she saw it, and coerced him into marriage in 1981. David served in the U.S. Army for 13 years, including a stint in Desert Shield/Storm and tours to Honduras, Europe and Korea. He has called Richmond his home since 1996. David loved to fix anything from watches to computers to cars. And boats. And lawnmowers. We like to think that he personally kept Chesterfield Auto Parts in business. His favorite thing to do was to go “adventuring” in his car. After all, “he had a convertible.” As he departs this mortal coil, he takes with him the secret to the best hamburgers ever grilled. (Did you want that too? Sucks to be you.)

David leaves behind his mother, Kaye, his siblings Jon, Robert, Edie and Stephen and their families. He also leaves his wife Judy (who was always referred to as “Sweetie” in a really obnoxious voice), his children Jenn, Wes and Andy and their families, including 13 ridiculously good-looking, brilliant grandchildren and one disgustingly adorable great-grandchild. There are also two fat, spoiled dogs and one temperamental black cat who will miss their favorite couch buddy. Semper Gumby. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in his name to Chesterfield Food Bank, https://www.cfboc.org/

I didn’t have the pleasure of knowing Dave or your family, but this was one of the most
cleverly written obituaries I have ever read. I thought it was a terrific tribute to someone who obviously was just a well-rounded great guy,
A good husband, a loving pet owner, good humored, ambitious and very smart. I’d say his wife did a good job in snagging him when she got the chance. I’m sorry he died so young, but it sounds like this family will share many wonderful memories of him forever.
My heartfelt condolences to all of you in the Evers family.
