Obituary
July 8, 2023, Debra Ann Britton, 64, of Midlothian Virginia, passed away peacefully surrounded by her beloved son, Matthew Britton, and her close family members by her side.
Debbie married her first and only love, Michael Britton, on April 17, 1982, and they were blessed with one child, Matthew. In 2015, Debbie retired from Overnite Transportation/UPS Freight after 35 years and spent her time caring for her terminally ill husband, Mike, and mother-in-law, Charlotte West. She was often quiet and reserved but always willing to help someone in need.
Debbie enjoyed trying new recipes and cooking with her son every week and then sharing the recipes with her family. One of Debbie’s favorite past times was sitting on the back porch with a good book while admiring the deer grazing in the yard. She loved music so it wouldn’t be unusual to find her singing while listening to a country music radio station or watching a concert. If her favorite local band, Alibi, was playing – she was there no matter how far she had to drive. She enjoyed walking on the beach, eating grape popsicles, and watching the peaceful sunset. Debbie had an immense love for animals so she would often visit the Richmond Animal League donating various bags of dog food. Most importantly, Debbie’s greatest pleasure was spending time with her son and family.
Debbie was predeceased by her husband, Michael Wayne Britton, who died March 31, 2015, and her mother, Patricia Ann Baldwin, who died May 5, 2022, and her brother, Charles David Golding, who died April 30, 2003.
She is survived by her son, Matthew Britton, and her parents, Larry and Roberta Ramkey. She is also survived by 3 brothers, 4 sisters, 12 nieces and nephews, and 6 great nieces and nephews.
They include brother, Michael Ramkey (Mieako) and children, Jessica Haenlein (Pete), Kari Journigan (Randy), Bret Ramkey (Sarah), Billie VanStory Ramkey, and Chris Holt; sister (in-law) Annabel Britton (Tim) and children, Timothy Britton (Kelly), Kazzie Ralston (Kevin), and Ben Britton; brother, Scott Ramkey (Tosha) and children, Zach Ramkey and Lexa Ramkey; brother Todd Ramkey (Michelle) and children, Carter Ramkey and Kendall Ramkey; sister, Anita Connell (Cecil); sister Karen Strubel (Robert); and sister, Traci Harig (Rick).
Her great nieces and nephews include Savannah Journigan, Dylan Journigan, Ethan Haenlein, Emilia Haenlein, Christopher Holt, and Cayden Holt.
The phone calls and visits Debbie received during the last couple of weeks of her life gave her happiness and peace.
Debbie requested we not have a service in hopes that funds would be sent to Richmond Animal League or St. Jude Children’s Hospital in her memory, both organizations that she strongly believed in.
