When my mother married Dennis I moved with them to chesterfield for my high school years. He was not only a great father figure, but a great man. From my perspective he seemed invincible (other than his fear of snakes). He was always someone I could go to for advice when needed. I will definitely miss his infectious laugh. Rest easy.

Thank you for helping me break my 24 year no Buck streak! You were kind and generous to me and my boys. I appreciate everything.

Dennis was the kind of person that you only had to meet him once and you were instant friends. My wife and I lived beside him for twelve years including my children John and Jordan. Dennis made a true positive Impact on my whole family. I will never forget him he was truly a great and respected man. RIP Sheriff Dennis Proffitt.

    1. It’s so hard to believe he’s gone. I used to love it when he would be on his zero turn mower… ear phones on, cigar in his mouth, sleeveless t-shirt baring his ‘not today’ tattoo. He’d come flying by I bet doing at least 30 mph on that mower…or faster if it was hunting season! What a great person, and he will be very missed. I’ll always smile when I think of him, and I bet a lot of others will too.
