Obituary

Phillips, Doris “Dot” Maxey (Schaffer), 91, of Richmond, Va., went to be with the Lord on Saturday, January 2, 2021. She was preceded in death by her husbands, Richard G. Schaffer and Leonard “Buddy” E. Phillips; parents, Mary M. and Floyd W. Maxey; son-in-law, Lynn A. Pless; and stepson, David F. Phillips. She is survived by her stepdaughter, Dawn Schaffer Allen; children, Robin S. Pless, Richard L. Schaffer (Ann) and James M. Schaffer; grandchildren, Alex McCall (Courtney), Kathryn Silverthorn (Jason), Gwendolyn Schaffer and Elliott Schaffer; great-grandsons, Felix McCall and Luka Silverthorn; step grandchildren, Jennifer Stevens (Rob) and Hilary Lass (Chris); step great-grandchildren, Emily, Ian, Olivia, and Christopher; and siblings, Floyd Maxey (Bev) and Aileen Coppridge. On the Phillips”™ side, Dot is survived by her stepchildren, Leonard (Pam), Keith, Karen and Kim (Joe); stepdaughter-in-law Robin; and numerous step grandchildren. Dot was devoted to God and family. She loved generously and treated all with kindness and respect. She always had a sparkle of love and tenderness in her eyes. Her legacy of love lives on in those whose lives she touched. She will always be remembered for her big heart and generous spirit. Dot”™s memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, January 30, at Morrissett Funeral & Cremation Service, 6500 Iron Bridge Rd., N. Chesterfield, Va. 23234. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in her name to Branch”™s Baptist Church, 3400 Broad Rock Blvd., Richmond, Va. 23234.

  4. My deepest sympathy to the family. I feel such a lost. It feels like losing my own grandmother again. No more hugs, or hot cider chats. The world feels like such an empty place without her.
