Obituary

O’Connell, Dorothy B. of Chesterfield peacefully passed away at home on December 4^th, surrounded by her family. We are so proud of our mother & so enjoyed our times together.  Her real joy was found in trips to the Outer Banks and Yorktown, Waynesboro, White Stone & Minnesota.  She so loved her travels & sitting waterside. Baking was another joy for her, baking a dozen pound cakes & pumpkin breads. We all looked so forward to that annual treat! Mom’s faith was something she enjoyed sharing.  With 9 children, 28 grandchildren, 42 great-grandchildren, 1 great-great grandchild.  A call or visit would make her day. Although busy raising her family, she found time to work at Bank of America for many years.

She was preceded in death by the love of her life, John R. O’Connell. He passed 21 years to the day she passed. Also preceded in death by her sons, JR O’Connell & Eddie O’Connell; grandchildren Wayne Warren & Cathy O’Connell; her brothers, Wade & Paul Bryan; & cousin & lifelong friend, Lovena Hughes. She is survived by her children Jackie Bates (Ken), Bobby O’Connell (Phyllis), Diane Becker (Ken), Susie Bunch (Raymond), Paul O’Connell (Debbie), Karen Gayle, & Dennis O’Connell.  Mom is also survived by many friends, nieces, and nephews.

A special thank you to our brother, Dennis for the loving care he provided our mother in her final years.

Visitation will be Sunday, December 11 from 4pm-6pm at Morrissett Funeral and Cremation Service, 6500 Iron Bridge Road, N. Chesterfield. A funeral service will be held 1pm Monday, December 12 at the Morrissett chapel with interment to follow at Dale Memorial Park.
