Obituary

Douglas Allen Proffitt, 67, of Chesterfield, VA went to be with the Lord on Saturday, February 15, 2025 surrounded by family and friends. He was born on May 3, 1957 in Richmond, Virginia to the late Arthur Lee and Mary Proffitt.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 24 years, Mary King Proffitt; sons, Travis Wade Proffitt (Melissa) and Larry Bishop Traylor, Jr. (Jennifer); daughters, Shannan Marie Bowman, Rachel Proffitt Coleman (Eric), Kimberly Michelle Brown (Kelsey); grandchildren: Jordan Alexandra Traylor, Carter Heath Bowman, Alexandra Marie Bowman, Saylor Jane Proffitt, Preston Mason Bowman, Jackson Whitley Casey, Adley Roe Proffitt, Ava LeAnn Kern, Aubree Elizabeth Kern, Jackson William Coleman, and Wren Olivia Coleman; brothers, Dennis Proffitt, David Proffitt (Tammy), and Donald Proffitt (Tiffany); and numerous nieces and nephews.

 Doug retired from Philip Morris after 42 years of service as a fixer. After retirement he and his wife traveled and frequently visited the beaches they loved with their toes in the sand and a cold beer in hand. Doug loved fishing with his children and grandchildren. Doug had touched many people’s lives and was loved by all who knew him. Throughout his journey with cancer, he fought courageously, never complained, and remained a source of strength for those around him. Doug will forever be loved and greatly missed by all who knew him.

The family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. on Tuesday, February 25, 2025 at Morrissett Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 6500 Iron Bridge Road, North Chesterfield, VA 23234. Doug’s service will be held immediately following his visitation at 12:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Interment to follow at Greenwood Memorial Gardens, 12609 Patterson Avenue, Richmond, VA 23238.

The family invites friends to a celebration of life held at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday, February 25, 2025 at Anna’s Italian Restaurant & Pizzeria, 11027 Hull Street Road N, Midlothian, VA 23112.
