Obituary

Spragg, Douglas George., On February 14, 2008, the Lord answered his prayer to be reunited in Heaven with his one true Valentine of 65 years. Mr. Spragg, formerly from Port Washington, New York, became a resident of Pinehurst, North Carolina, upon his retirement in 1983. Mr. Spragg, a past executive vice president and trustee of the Dime Savings Bank of New York, was associated with the banking and thrift industry of New York State for forty-five years. In 2006, he relocated to Richmond, Virginia to live near family. Mr. Spragg graduated from New York University, majoring in accounting and finance. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the headquarters of a signal operations battalion associated with the 12th Army Group in the European Theater of Operations. He was a past president of the Port Washington Rotary Club and a past president of the New York Chapter of the American Thrift Institute. He also served on many local organizations within the Port Washington community. While residing in Port Washington, Mr. Spragg was a member of the United Methodist Church and a past president for its board of trustees. Upon arriving in Pinehurst, Mr. Spragg became a member of the Community Presbyterian Church of Pinehurst, Pinehurst Country Club, and a member of the Wolves Bridge Club of Pinehurst. Predeceased by his beloved wife Evelyn Grace Spragg, Mr. Spragg is survived by his two sons, Donald Bradley Spragg and daughter-in-law Patricia Bailey Spragg of Midlothian, Virginia, Glenn Douglas Spragg and daughter-in-law Laurie Shana Spragg of Buzzards Bay, Massachusetts, and daughter, Carolyn Grace Pone of Saratoga Springs, New York. He is also survived by three granddaughters, Nicole Marie Pone, Katharine Abigail Spragg, Brittney Elizabeth Pone, and a great-grandson, Thomas Michael Spragg-Wendell. A memorial service will be scheduled at a future point in time. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be sent to the Moore Regional Hospital Foundation, Pinehurst, NC, FirstHealth Hospice, NC, or to Bon Secours Hospice, Richmond, VA 23227.
