Important Update Regarding COVID-19
Morrissett Funeral and Cremation Service is constantly monitoring the rapid changes of COVID-19 (Corona Virus)
We are following instructions by the Governor of Virginia, The CDC, The National Funeral Directors Association, The Virginia Funeral Directors Association and Regulatory Support Services.
The following outlines the Phase 3 procedure in compliance with the Governor’s current order of 50% capacity.
As of May 15, 2020, Governor Northam has begun to allow some businesses and places of worship and or ceremony to operate at 50% occupancy. We are committed to the families we serve and the communities that support them. We ask that families consider that the type of gatherings they hold to be ever mindful of those who attend, and their health and well-being. We also ask that you refrain from hugging or shaking hands and practice safe social distancing.
What this means for services:
As of May 26, 2020, Governor Northam has put an order in place requiring masks to be worn when in public buildings. In order to protect the vulnerable and high-risk members of the community, it is highly recommended that face masks be worn. Unfortunately, we are unable to provide masks for visitors; please utilize your own. Failure to use a mask while in our establishment will be an assumed release of liability.
All Morrissett Staff will be wearing face masks at all times.
We have placed hand sanitizer and polite reminders throughout the building to assist with cleanliness. We have upgraded the air filters on all of our HVAC systems to promote cleaner air exchange. If you are not in attendance and would like to pass condolences or have your name added to the guest book, please call us and we will assist or utilize the online condolences at Morrissett.com.
Once again, we ask you to practice safe social distancing, and to please not attend if you are ill or at high risk.
Families that maybe in need of our services in the coming weeks, please know that we will care for you and your loved ones with the utmost respect and assist you in the options we feel are safe and that comply with the Governor of Virginia’s limitations and the CDC.
This can mean public or private family services. We promise to work with you as families and your comfort level and desires to honor your loved one.
Please be aware that no coffee, cookies, or cups of water will be available to any guest or families. We will have bottled water available at your request.
As we monitor this ever rapidly changing situation, we will continue to provide updates in regard to the measures we are taking. We appreciate the support and kindness shown during this difficult time. If you have any questions or need further assistance, please contact us at 804-275-7828 or e-mail to Staff@Morrissett.com

I’m so sorry to see this. My condolences to Betty and the family. Durward and I were good friends when I worked at Stockton St. I even attended his daughter’s wedding. I have missed my friend these years since he retired. My prayers are with the family. 💔

Durward this will be is my first visit to VA on Tuesday that I haven’t taken any NC BBQ and sausage. I do remember the time this past fall that Jimmy and I and friends went to TENNESSEE and we had a wonderful visit and wonderful food at the restaurant Paula Deans and you wanted Fried Chicken and you got it too. You will certainly be missed by your family here in NC. You don’t have to worry about anything else and now and you can finally rest in Peace. We love you 💙

Betty and family, we are so sorry about the passing of Durward. It seems so unreal. Even though we didn’t see you often, I thought about you often and have so many great memories of times spent together back in the days on Decatur Street in Richmond. I know life will be different with Durward gone, but I pray the days will get easier as time goes on. So many have passed on….Mama, Daddy, Aunt Ruth, Uncle Red, Ray and now Durward. Life is so short and we never know when the circle of family will be broken again. Please know you will be in our thoughts and prayers. We love ya’ll. Your cousin, Vickie – NC

Betty- I know your heart is broken as mine is too- Me and Durward shared so many memories together especially when we were kids – one of my favorite was when we would go to grandpas watermelon patch and get us a watermelon and sit on uncle Jeff’s tractor and eat it – I know you will miss him and so will I miss being able to call you two just to check on you both- you and your family are in my prayers because I know you will have some difficult days ahead. You will always be part of our family and can call on me anytime. Love you- Sophia
