Obituary
Earle Spencer Jr. (84) of Chesterfield, Virginia went to be with the Lord on Friday, February 21, 2025. He was preceded in death by his parents, Earle Spencer Sr. and Mildred Phillips Spencer, and brothers, Bruce C. Spencer and Wayne L. Spencer. Earle is survived by his son, Earle Spencer III (Traci); daughter Erika Spencer Beaulieu (Troy); stepdaughter Cindy Boswell (Steve); stepson Jeffrey Butler; brother, Wilson S. Spencer (Sherri); grandchildren Earle Spencer IV, Gracie Bee G. Spencer, Hugh D. Spencer, Brittney A. Mahan (Tuck), Brighton R. Beaulieu, Jordan Butler, Jennifer Butler, Andy Watts, and Buck Boswell (Morgan); great-grandson Skylar Mahan; sisters-in-law, Camilla S. Spencer and Donna C. Spencer.
Earle’s journey was marked by an exceptional work ethic, community impact, deep compassion for others, and love for family and laughter. He was a prominent businessman in Chesterfield County for over 50 years serving as Vice President of Spencer Brothers Inc. Also, you could grab a hot dog or a Carolina style barbeque, served back in the day with a Big Earle, at one of the few convenience stores in different parts of the county that he owned. For over 50 years, he dedicated himself as trustee of the board at Second Branch Baptist. You might drive by church and catch him up there watering the flowers or talking with someone that drove by. Earle’s passion for giving back to the community shone through his sponsorship of the Chesterfield Little League, swim lessons at the YMCA, and summer camps at Camp Thunderbird, among many other acts of generosity.
Although, Earle was dedicated to his work he knew the importance of family and relaxation. He found comfort at his second home in Nags Head, where he developed a profound love for the beach. He enjoyed tracking tides, sunrises, bird watching and updating others on the turtle nests. Earle treasured spending time with his children, taking family vacations in the U.S., from Hawaii to Key West, and eventually becoming buddies with Mickey Mouse at Disney World.
Earle couldn’t go anywhere without running into someone he knew. It didn’t matter where he was, he could be at a restaurant or even in Disney World. He made a great number of friends in his lifetime. At the crack of dawn, you could find him at a few of his favorite breakfast spots Cracker Barrel, Waffle House and Southern Taste Diner. His routine frequenting these places allowed him to chat with people and develop friendships. Whenever he walked in, people would say, “Here comes Mr. Earle!” He began joining a Friday breakfast ritual with his brother, sons and friends at Southern Taste Diner. Earle never knew a stranger; he was a social butterfly who genuinely cared about those he would encounter.
Lastly, his grandchildren brought joy into his life, complementing the love he had for his children. They will continue to carry on the Spencer trait of hard work, compassion and kindness upholding the pride of what it means to be a Spencer and the legacy of Earle Spencer. Earle shaped the lives of countless individuals mentoring, leaving a lasting impact on businesses and charitable works. His legacy of his work ethic, community service, and infectious smile will be deeply missed.

I extend my condolences to all of the Spencer families. I knew Earle in a business relationship and friendly, social relationship. When I came to Chester in 1966, I met Earle through the Spencer Brothers Oil Company. If it was cold and you were low or out of oil, you could call Earle at any time of day or night and he would come and fill up your tank, amazing work ethic. I moved to Arizona to be with my daughters but I would still call Earle and catch up on the county news, he knew it all. Rest In Peace my friend, you surely deserve it.
