Obituary

O’Connell, Edward Bryan “Ed” of Henrico, VA passed away unexpectedly Monday November 28^th, 2022.  Ed was a 1969 graduate of George Wythe H.S.  He joined the Richmond Police Department where he enjoyed 33 years of service before retiring as a detective Sergeant.  He then worked for Genworth for 13 years. He was a member of Richmond Fraternal Order of Police & Knights of Columbus. Ed was one of the most generous people donating to those in need, whether it be a family member, friend,  American Cancer Society, T2T, or Children’s Hospital. He had strong faith and enjoyed sharing those values. He loved the outdoors, spending time with children, grandchildren, family and friends, especially his lifelong best friend, his brother Bobby. Ed loved his 2 cats, Sammy & Trouble. Ed enjoyed many years of motorcycle riding.  If you were lucky enough to know Ed, you were lucky enough.  Ed was preceded in death by the love of his life, his wife, Leigh Ashtiani-O’Connell, father, John R O’Connell, Sr, brother, JR O’Connell & first wife, Bonita O’Connell. He is survived by his mother, Dorothy O’Connell; children Bryan O’Connell (Sherrie), Jason O’Connell (Kimberly), Jessie O’Connell Miller (Andrew) & Sean O’Connell; grandchildren, Jasmine, Ethan, Erica & Jordan; siblings, Jackie Bates (Ken), Bobby O’Connell (Phyllis), Diane Becker (Ken), Susie Bunch (Raymond), Paul O’Connell (Debbie), Karen O’Connell Gayle, & Dennis O’Connell. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, great-nieces & nephews, & cousins. Visitation will be Monday, December 5 from 5pm-7pm at Morrissett Funeral and Cremation Service, 6500 Iron Bridge Road, N. Chesterfield. A celebration of life will be held Tuesday, December 6 at 10am in the Morrissett chapel with interment to follow at Dale Memorial Park. Online condolences at morrissett.com.
