Obituary

Edwin S. Miller passed away peacefully at his home in Midlothian, Virginia on September 27, 2024.

Edwin was born on October 27, 1928 in Newark, New Jersey to William and Anna Miller.  He grew up in Millburn, New Jersey and graduated from  Millburn High School in 1947.

During his High school career he lettered in five sports; Football, Basketball, Track, Golf and Baseball.  He was also the President of the Student council.

He was the recipient of the Millburn Scholastic Boosters first scholarship award in 1947.  His halfback prowess on the football field earned him a 4 year scholarship to

Johns Hopkins University in Maryland. During his High school athletic career he was on the teams that won the Suburban Conference in Football, Basketball and Golf. In 1995, Edwin was inducted into the Millburn High School Hall of Fame.

Following high school graduation, Edwin attended Johns Hopkins University and graduated in 1951 with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business.  During his tenure at Hopkins he was awarded

the University’s Outstanding Freshman Athlete in 1947-1948.  He played 4 years of football, three years of baseball (Pitcher) and one year of Lacrosse. He was a member of the Hopkins

1948 football team that won the Mason-Dixon conference title with a 7-1 record and earned an invitation to the Tangerine Bowl. Since 1948,  Edwin has held the Johns Hopkins University’s longest punt record, 74 yards against Western Maryland.

Upon graduating from Johns Hopkins, Edwin received letters of interest for possible selection in the 1951 NFL draft from the Pittsburgh Steelers and Los Angeles Rams.  He declined the letters of interest to

enlist into military service.  He served with the United States Marines from 1951-1953 and was Honorably Discharged at the rank of Sergeant.

In 1952, Edwin married Ann Barbara Salerno, from Summit, New Jersey.    Edwin joined Mobil Oil Corporation in 1955 and enjoyed a 36 year career, retiring in 1991.

Edwin loved the outdoors and spent numerous hours gardening, playing as much golf as he could and traveling with his wife, Ann to various destinations.  His favorite spot for vacation was Topsail Island, North Carolina, which held fond memories of the past with friends and family.  Edwin was an avid reader and enjoyed staying up to date with current events.

Edwin is survived by his loving wife Ann of 71 years. Son Edwin,Jr (MaryJo), Daughter Deborah(David Bodsford), Son Douglas(predeceased) and

Seven Grandchildren, Sarah(Stephen),  Matthew(Kate),  Joseph, Brett(Cassandra), Allison(Jason),  Juliana(Colton), Emily and

Eleven Great Grandchildren, Paxton, Harrison,  Annabelle,  Maxwell,  Adalyn,  Blake,  Douglas,  Mason, Claire,  Madison,  Bryce.

Visiting hours will be held on Saturday, October 5, 2024 from 9 am to 10:30 am., followed by a Prayer Service at 10:30 am at the Bradley Brough & Dangler Funeral Home, 299 Morris Ave. Summit, NJ. Interment St. Teresa’s Cemetery, Summit
