Obituary

Beloved wife, mother, grandmother and friend Eileen Marie Kittel, of Chesterfield, VA, passed away on May 2, 2023 at the age of 72, after a courageous battle with cancer. Even during her toughest days, cancer couldn’t take away her love for life. She lived every moment to its fullest. Her sharp wit and great sense of humor touched everyone she encountered, and she will be greatly missed.

Eileen is survived by her loving husband of 49 years, William “Bill” Robert Kittel, her daughter Pamela Eileen Jaeger and husband Christopher Jaeger, her son William Robert Kittel, Jr. and wife Tracy Kittel, and her grandchildren – Renee Jaeger, Katelyn Jaeger, Reid Jaeger and Annaleigh Kittel.

Eileen was born on February 26, 1951 to Bridget and William McHugh in Brooklyn, NY.  She was pre-deceased by her parents and her two sisters, Mary Chartier and Elizabeth Berger. Though she was born a city girl, her heart found its way to the country, where she and Bill built their dream home in upstate NY and raised their young family. She spent her years there working for the local school system, and she was dubbed one of the infamous “Speed Queens” by her office mates, who were like sisters to her. She belonged to her local biking club, and she spent many Saturday mornings exploring roads and trails.

Ten years ago, Eileen and Bill settled in Virginia to enjoy their retirement.  They loved traveling in their RV on extended trips to Florida and took many local trips with their RV group. Eileen loved to camp with her dogs – and air conditioning and a comfy bed.

Blue and orange were Eileen’s colors – as it should be for every real Mets fan – and throughout her life you could find her most evenings catching up on the latest games for her favorite team, with Bill by her side and a dog on her lap.

Eileen’s top priority was her loved ones. First her children and her friends, and then as their family grew, her four grandkids too. Her door was always open.  She never missed a game, meet or family event that she didn’t have to. She was her grandchildren’s biggest fan – and always had the corresponding T-shirt to prove it. She traveled far and wide for birthdays, weddings, and any other event you could think of.

She leaves behind a legacy of unending love that will live on in her family and friends. While she may no longer be here with us in body, her spirit is strong.

A funeral service will be held at 10 am on July 1st  at St. Edward Catholic Church 2700 Dolfield Dr, North Chesterfield, VA 23235, followed by a reception to celebrate Eileen’s life at the Walton Lake Clubhouse 12700 Walton Lake Drive, Midlothian, VA 23114.
