Obituary

Elizabeth Winfree Quaiff, 99, passed away September 6, 2022.  She was born September 18, 1922 in Richmond, Virginia to William Ashton Winfree and Lucy Ryland Winfree. Elizabeth’s passion for family, music, nature, and teaching was boundless.  She attended Beulah School and taught 2nd grade at Beulah as well. She attended Chester High School and graduated from Mary Washington College.  She was a lifelong member of Beulah United Methodist Church where she sang in the church Choir for over 70 years.  She was a true blessing to those that knew her. Elizabeth married her childhood sweetheart, Charles Reid Quaiff, Sr. on June 5, 1943. They celebrated over 50 years of marriage before his passing in 1994.

Elizabeth is survived by her children, Ann Byrum, Betsy Q. Forbes, Judith Q. Nickels and Charles Reid Quaiff, Jr.(Karen);  grandchildren: Randy Dudley, Ashton Byrum, Marcy Meiller, Rebecca Boney , David Nickels, John Nickels, Reid Quaiff and Christine Quaiff; great- grandchildren: Sydney Meiller, Drew Meiller, Nicole Dudley, Ishai Nickels and Dylan Byrum. There have been many folks to whom we are forever grateful for looking out for and caring for Mama while she was at Springdale and Lucy Corr: her good friends at Springdale who looked after her; Charlotte Wilson who always kept an eye on Mama Q;  Beth Fulk, mom’s faithful companion later in her stay at Springdale; and Allie Herndon,  a true Godsend and blessing who was so much more than a ”sitter”  but more like a friend who dearly loved Mom.

A visitation will be held at Morrissett Funeral and Cremation Service, 6500 Iron Bridge Road, N. Chesterfield on Saturday, September 17, 2022 from 2pm – 4pm.  A birthday/funeral service celebrating her 100 years of life will be held on Sunday, September 18, 2022 at 2pm at Beulah United Methodist Church, 6930 Hopkins Road, N. Wel Elizabeth, you and my momma, Billie Chalkley, are having a good ole time sitting around singing and playing the organ And meeting good friends. Your presence will be missed but your spirit will always be close by. I love you lady.

  3. D-Jo Emmel says:

Miss Elizabeth was always so kind to our family, but especially when Daddy died. I think of her whenever I make her chocolate chess pie and always give her credit! She leaves such a loving legacy in her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
    Rest in peace, Miss Elizabeth

  4. Burton Ross says:

Elizabeth. You have been a close friend and guiding light to my mother Bobbie Chalkley for as long as I can remember. You will truly be missed by the Ross bunch from Florida.

  5. Aunt Elizabeth was my favorite aunt. She loved her extended family so much and particularly my mother, Frances Quaiff Cole, whom Elizabeth looked upon as her very own “sister”.

Throughout the times of war and in peace; times of health and sickness; Aunt Elizabeth was always there for both of us. She will be sorely missed here on earth.

    Bonnie Cole Willis – niece
