Obituary

Elner J. Snell, 85, of North Chesterfield, VA passed away peacefully at home surrounded by loved ones on Friday, March 14, 2025. She was born on May 27, 1939 in Bertie County, North Carolina to the late Lloyd H. and Edith Mae Jernigan. Elner is preceded in death by her beloved husband, Robert A. Snell; grandson, Devon Barrett; great granddaughter, Kyleigh Vann; brother, Lloyd C. Jernigan; and sisters, Mary Jernigan and Ann J. Rhodes.

She is survived by her daughters, Linda Ramey and Beverly Barrett; son, Charles R. Vann (Sandra Wilkerson); grandchildren: Alaina Jones, Justin Jones, Sarah Jones, Kallen Ramey, Lloyd Vann, and Breana Barrett; great grandchildren, Jayden Milligan, Kyndall Vann, Braelyn Paige, Lila Jones, Sophia Vann, Lloyd Vann Jr., and Lilly Vann; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Elner was a devoted mother, wife, grandmother, and great grandmother. She loved family gatherings during holidays and any other occasion. Elner’s favorite holiday was Christmas, and everyone anticipated her holiday cakes, cookies, and candy. She enjoyed cooking for family and friends and was known for her southern cooking and her diligence in caring for others. After retiring from the trucking industry, she enjoyed traveling. She enjoyed watching the birds outside her window and spending time outdoors on sunny days. Elner throughout her life touched many hearts and will be truly missed by those who were fortunate enough to have her in their life.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Friday, March 21, 2025 at Morrissett Funeral Home, 6500 Iron Bridge Road, North Chesterfield, VA 23234. Elner’s funeral service will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, March 22, 2025 at Webber Memorial Baptist Church, 7800 Salem Church Road, North Chesterfield, VA 23237. Interment to follow at Central Baptist Church Cemetery, 1500 Courthouse Road, North Chesterfield, 23236.
