Obituary
Elsie Samuel Sorrentino, 95, of N. Chesterfield, VA went to be with her Lord and Savior on Wednesday, January 12, 2022. While on earth, she dedicated her life to serving her Lord, her family, and her friends. She loved listening to Christian songs and programs on BBN (Bible Broadcasting Network). She never said an unkind word about anyone.
Elsie was a member of Berean Baptist in Richmond, VA over 65 years. There she taught Sunday School and VBS. She set up communion monthly for 50+ years. She helped organize church meals and insisted on cleaning up after the meals. She also ordered flowers for the church. Many summers she went down to the church and washed windows and curtains.
From the time her four children were born, she took them to church faithfully and brought them up in the nurture and admonition of the Lord. She quoted verses all the time. Her favorite verse was “O taste and see that the Lord is good” (Psalm 34:8).
Elsie enjoyed her card ministry sending out birthday, get well, sympathy and anniversary cards. She was in charge of mailing out cards for the Berean Ladies Bible Study.
On a personal note, she enjoyed cooking and was known for her “famous” potato salad. She enjoyed the weekly fishing trips every weekend to Jamestown with her family.
Elsie was born in Caroline County, VA. After high school, she moved to Richmond where she attended nursing school for a while. She worked for Grace Hospital for over 50 years in Medical Records. It was during this time that she met her husband, Joe Sorrentino.
Elsie was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, Joe Sorrentino; daughters, Frances Sorrentino and Linda Sorrentino Ellington; granddaughter, Bethany Pennino; and her parents and five siblings.
She is survived by children, Patricia Sorrentino Pennino (Ronald) and Tom Sorrentino (Vicki); granddaughters, Darcy Sorrentino, and Carolyn Sorrentino Van Campenhout (Jason); grandson, Tim Pennino (Esther); great grandson, Rocky Sorrentino and Austin Norman; son-in-law, Wesley Ellington; sister-in-law, Anna Sorrentino Sangiamo and several nieces and nephews.
Friends may visit from 12:00-1:00 pm with her funeral service starting at 1:00 pm on Tuesday, January 18 at Berean Baptist Church, 2914 Cogbill Rd., N. Chesterfield, VA 23234. In lieu of flowers monetary contributions may be made to BBN, PO BOX 7300, Charlotte, NC 28241 or to Berean Baptist Church.

Our deepest sympathies to the Sorrentino family. Mrs. Sorrentino was a dear friend and fellow church family member to our late Mother. We remember her visiting and bringing food to our late Mother especially her delicious potato soup during her illness. She was one of the kindest, sweetest and true Christian ladies we have known.
