Obituary
Elwood “Woody” Maurice Gentry, 92, of North Chesterfield, VA went to be with the Lord on Monday, March 27, 2023. He was born in Hollister, California on January 27, 1931, to the late Marvin Charles and Gladys C. Gentry. He was also preceded in death by his beloved wife of 60 years, Joyce Irene Gentry; and son, Bryan Scott Gentry.
Woody was a WWII Army Veteran who served in Okinawa as a radio operator. He returned home to marry his lady love, Joyce Irene Savory. He was always curious and ready to learn as well as pass along his knowledge to others. He shared his knowledge as an adjunct teacher at a local community college as well as working as a research scientist at Phillip Morris, while there he developed several processes for which he was awarded patents. He loved photography, woodworking, catching up with friends over the Ham radio, and flying model planes and helicopters. His family was his biggest joy in his twilight years.
Woody is survived by his daughter, Nancy G. Benson; son, Alan Gentry (Betty); granddaughters, Aime Kindall St John, Austin Benson, Ryan Gentry, and Holly Gentry Toomey (James); grandsons, Timothy Warren Gentry, Clifford Alan Gentry, Westly Benson, and Matthews M. Benson; great grandchildren; Clifford Thomas Gentry (Clifford), Karsen Holdcraft (Austin), Jake Toomey, Luke Toomey, Daniel Toomey (Holly), and Danni Beau Wilson (Aime).
The family will receive family and friends from 10:00 am. to 1:00 p.m. and again from 4:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. on Thursday, April 6, 2023, at Morrissett Funeral & Cremation Service, 6500 Iron Bridge Road, North Chesterfield, VA 23234. His celebration of life will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, April 7, 2023, at the funeral home. Interment will follow at Dale Memorial Park, 10201 Newby’ s Bridge Road, Chesterfield, VA 23832. In lieu of flowers the family suggests that memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association or to Myasthenia Gravis Foundation of America.
