Obituary

Erika Anneliese Reynolds was born on July 9, 1935 in Ludwigsburg, Germany, the only child of Walter Nied and Sofie Carle Nied.  Erika was an active child and young lady.  She loved swimming and competed as a member of a well-known swim club.  She was also a member of a ski club that often competed in Switzerland.  After WWII, Erika moved to the United States and became a naturalized citizen.  She worked 20 years at the A&P Bakery and was a proud member of the Bakery, Tobacco & Confectionary Union #358.  After she worked 18 years in the Department of Medical Records at MCV/VCU.

Erika was a 30-year breast cancer survivor and affectionally known as ‘Hanny’ and ‘Grandma’ to her eight grandchildren and six great grandchildren.  She loved reading romance and mystery novels, clipping coupons and thrift store shopping.  She delighted family and friends with her authentic German cooking, especially handmade spaetzle noodles and Hungarian goulash.  She also made sure to always have mini pizzas, CapriSun drinks and Chips Ahoy cookies for her grandchildren.

Erika departed this life on April 20, 2020 surrounded by family.  She was preceded in death by her parents, Walter & Sofie Nied, and husband, Guy A. Reynolds, Jr.  She leaves to cherish her memory, daughter, Sylvia Wilson (William), son, Michael Reynolds (Ingrid), and stepdaughter, Sheila Dorton.  Grandchildren: Lisa McCauley, Timmy & Tony Vanover, Tanisha Finney, Taquan Kelley (Ashley), Tiara & Destini Hocker, and Michael Reynolds, Jr.  Great Grandchildren: Kaitlyn Brooks, Astrid Vanover, Kyler McCauley, Nehemiah & Hadassah Kelley, and Kehlani Verse.  And a host of family and friends.

The family of Erika Reynolds would like to thank everyone who supported us over the years with prayers, calls and acts of kindness.  Special Thanks to: Ronnie Turner & Family, Connie White, Ken & Vicki Soper, Donna Dean Stevens, Charles & Amanda Monteque, and Demond Harris & Family.
