Erika Anneliese Reynolds was born on July 9, 1935 in Ludwigsburg, Germany, the only child of Walter Nied and Sofie Carle Nied. Erika was an active child and young lady. She loved swimming and competed as a member of a well-known swim club. She was also a member of a ski club that often competed in Switzerland. After WWII, Erika moved to the United States and became a naturalized citizen. She worked 20 years at the A&P Bakery and was a proud member of the Bakery, Tobacco & Confectionary Union #358. After she worked 18 years in the Department of Medical Records at MCV/VCU.
Erika was a 30-year breast cancer survivor and affectionally known as “Hanny” and “Grandma” to her eight grandchildren and six great grandchildren. She loved reading romance and mystery novels, clipping coupons and thrift store shopping. She delighted family and friends with her authentic German cooking, especially handmade spaetzle noodles and Hungarian goulash.
