Obituary

Evangeline “Lilly” Hajacos Gibson, born August 23, 1930, in Lynchburg, VA and was welcomed into the arms of Jesus Christ her Lord a Saviour in Richmond, VA on Friday, June 12, 2026. She was preceded in death by her husband, Lacy D. Gibson; parents, Angelo N. Hajacos and Martha Stinnett Hajacos; and brothers, Nick, James and Pete Hajacos. Evangeline is survived by her children, Janet Gibson Garnett, Michael Lacy Gibson, and Steven Wayne Gibson; grandchildren, Angela Garnett Lackovitch, Tamara Garnett Slaughter, Stephanie Garnett Fridley, Steven W. Gibson, Jr., and Reta Gibson Smith. She is also survived by 8 great-grandchildren. Evangeline worked for Reynold’s Metals, Reyment Road plant for 40 years. The family would like to thank the staff at Bellgrade Estates, who took care of her during her 7 year stay there. A special thank you to Aliyah Pleasants, who helped us navigate the healthcare system to get her the best care possible and made sure she was properly cared for this last year. Also, thank you to Mary and Christy with Legacy Hospice who were there and walked us through everything. The family was truly blessed by these faithful servants.

The funeral service will take place at 2:00 pm on Friday, June 19 at the mausoleum at Sunset Memorial Park, 2901 W. Hundred Rd., Chester, VA 23831.
