Obituary

Evelyn Costevene Bryant embodied joie de vivre and lived life on her own terms. An avid reader, she built a personal library of hundreds of books. Not one to let an opportunity pass her by, Evelyn traveled extensively! She visited the Netherlands, France, Germany, Belgium, British Columbia, the west coast, the gulf coast and the upper midwest. Evelyn was also known for her signature tea parties, complete with a carefully curated collection of teacups. Other hobbies included gardening and collecting dollhouses and depression glassware. She was quick with a story, often laced with humor, and never missed a chance to make others laugh. Devoted to her family and friends, she was always very attentive to our own interests and hobbies. This thoughtfulness was reflected in the spot-on nature of the gifts she gave. Not unlike all of us, Evelyn changed over the course of her life. Each change added to the richness and depth of her character. She “did the best that she could with what she had” and we are all very fortunate to have accompanied her on her journey.

Evelyn is survived her sons, Damani Bryant and Dante Bryant, granddaughter Avani Bryant, brother Simuel Bryant, brother-in-law James Simmons Sr. (Clara), nephew Joseph Bryant (Rhonda), nephew, Stuart Bryant (Hope), nephew, James Simmons Jr., nephew, Andy Bryant (Felicia), nephew, Warren Bryant (Jovan), as well as a host of grandnieces and nephews.

Evelyn is preceded in death by her mother, Helen Bryant, father, Isadore Bryant, and very recently, her sister, Clara Simmons.

The family will receive friends for a celebration of life and reception on July 12, 2025 from 12:00 pm to 4:00 pm at Morrissett Funeral and Cremation Service, 6500 Iron Bridge Rd, N. Chesterfield, VA 23234 (804) 275-7828
