Obituary

Bland, Betsy Vincent, 84, of Richmond, VA, died Monday, March 7, 2011, at Chippenham Hospital in Richmond. Mrs. Bland was an employee of the State of Virginia for over three decades, originally with the Department of Labor and, more recently, as Executive Secretary of the Virginia Historic Landmarks Commission. She was the widow of Vernon E. Bland, a former president of the Manchester Shrine Club and member of the ACCA Temple. She was active with him in numerous fundraising events for the Shriners Children’s Hospital. She was a member of the Professional Women’s Secretarial Association and Meadowbrook Country Club. She was a lifelong lover of musical theatre and tap dancing. She is survived by her brother, Mal Vincent, theatre and film critic for The Virginian-Pilot in Norfolk. A visitation will be held 10 to 11 a.m., Thursday, March 10, 2011, at Morrissett Funeral Home, 6500 Iron Bridge Rd. (Rte. 10), Richmond, where funeral services will be held 11 a.m., Thursday. Interment will follow at 3:30 p.m., Thursday, in Cedarwood Cemetery, 225 Kemp Ave., Roanoke Rapids, NC. Please assemble at the grave.
