Obituary

Francis Alexander Sutherland, III, (Alex) departed this life on December 26, 2024.

He is survived by his parents, Frank and Lauren Sutherland, and numerous family members and friends.

Alex was a graduate of the University of North Carolina-Greensboro and the University of Richmond School of Law. He was employed by Emerald Homes in Richmond, Va., and also created and managed his own Airbnb business.

Alex was a kind, gentle, warm-hearted and generous man. He was an avid reader, enjoyed cooking, golf and other sports, a good game of chess, and music, especially songs from The Great American Songbook.

He was always ready to reach out to those in need and offer a helping hand. His struggle with addiction stole many things from him but never his sense of humor or the happiness he felt in quiet moments of connection with his friends and loved ones.

Alex touched many lives during his time with us. He will be missed more than words can say.

Alex’s memorial service will be held on Friday, January 24, 2025 at 2:00 p.m. at Morrissett Funeral & Cremation Service, 6500 Iron Bridge Road, North Chesterfield, VA 23234.
