Obituary

LTC Frederick Paul Howland Jr. (October 24, 1944 – January 5, 2023) of Chesterfield, VA died of lymphoma.  “Freddy” was a University of New Mexico graduate and retired Army Engineer of 24 years. He was the chief engineer for the schools of Chesterfield county. Freddy later worked as a Facilities Engineer for Circuit City and retired as the Facilities Engineer from FastMart – GPM Investments. During his service in the United States army Frederick received the Distinguished Service Medal.

Freddy loved domestic travel and the outdoors.  He was a master craftsman of furniture and of antique furniture repair.

Freddy was the eldest son of Col. Frederick Paul Sr. and Virginia Martha Howland of Newport News, VA.  He is survived by his wife, Nancy Ann, and their two sons and families: Frederick Paul III and his life partner, Deborah Foster, Timothy James and his wife, Anne Marshall, and Freddy’s three grandchildren, Julia, Jack, and Logan.  Freddy is also survived by his eldest sister, Judith, and younger brother Phillip and wife, Jeanie.  Freddy’s youngest sister Patricia Lyons previously passed in April 2020.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Lymphoma Research Foundation, www.lymphoma.org.  To celebrate Freddy’s life, a memorial and funeral service will be held at St. Augustine’s Catholic Church, 4400 Beulah Road, North Chesterfield, 23237 on Friday, January 13, 2023.  The viewing will begin at 12:15 PM, followed by mass at 1:00 PM, and concluding with an ice cream social in the church hall.
