Obituary

Garland A. Barker, 69, of North Chesterfield, VA, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on Tuesday, October 25 ,2022. “Gaga” was preceded in death by his parents, Henry Allen and Winnie Jane Barker; and his son, William Bryan Palmatier. He is survived by his wife of 32 years, Helen P. Barker; two sons, Richard G. Palmatier (Leann); John Christopher Palmatier (Melissa); grandson, Garrett F. Palmatier; three granddaughters, Danielle Marie Griffin (Dan), Morgan A. Palmatier, Nicole T. Palmatier; two great-granddaughters, Rowan Jane and Brynn Collins Griffin; one great-grandson, Sawyer Jack Griffin; two sisters; and a multitude of cousins, nieces and nephews. He also leaves behind Brian Bondurant and Rob Hart, his lifelong friends.

Garland started his career as a union ironworker and after many years of working for the union, he accepted superintendent positions with heavy industrial construction companies; American Crane and Rigging, Crowder Industrial, and AMEC to name a few. He enjoyed fishing of any kind, especially at Smith Mountain Lake with his friends. Most of all, he enjoyed being with his family. In his memory, the family would suggest taking a child fishing.

A memorial gathering will be held from 4:00 to 6:00 pm on Wednesday, November 9, 2022, at Morrissett Funeral & Cremation Service, 6500 Iron Bridge Road.  In lieu of flowers the family suggests that memorial contributions may be made to Project Healing Waters Fly Fishing https://projecthealingwaters.org/donate
