Obituary

Gary Wayne Tolley, 68, passed away on July 30, 2026, in Charlottesville, Virginia.

Gary was born on July 14, 1958, in Richmond, Virginia, to Gerald Tolley, Sr., and Peggy Forrest. He graduated from Meadowbrook High School in 1976 before beginning a career as a Water Operator, where he worked for many years. He was known for his kind heart, easygoing personality, and appreciation for spending time with the people he loved.

Gary enjoyed a life filled with adventure and simple pleasures. He loved Nascar racing, spending time on the water, whether boating, fishing, or scuba diving, and some of his happiest memories were made during trips to the Outer Banks and the Florida Keys, two places he always looked forward to visiting. He had a fascination with history, enjoyed collecting antique clocks and radios, and never passed up the opportunity to relax with his cats. For a time, he even earned his pilot’s license, a reflection of his adventurous spirit and willingness to try new experiences.

Gary is survived by his sons, Michael (Rachel) Tolley, Brandon (Melissa) Tolley, and Justin (Vanessa) Tolley; his loving companion, Angela McMurtry; and his grandchildren, Julia, Sophia, and Jack.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Gerald Tolley, Sr., and Peggy Forrest, and his brother, Gerald Tolley, Jr.

A visitation honoring Gary’s life will be held on Wednesday, August 12, 2026, from 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m. at Morrissett Funeral and Cremation Service, 6500 Iron Bridge Road, North Chesterfield, Virginia 23234. Friends and family will then reconvene for a graveside service at 2:00 p.m. at Dale Memorial Park, 10201 Newbys Bridge Road, Chesterfield, VA 23832.
