Obituary

McCall, Gertrude “Gertie” Catherine “Cathy,” 82 of Midlothian, VA., beloved “Nanny” to everyone, passed away on December 29, 2022. What a glorious sight for her to awaken to the beautiful eyes and loving arms of Jesus. She was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth H. McCall, Sr., her daughter, Regina McCall, her stepson, Vic McCall, her grandson, Chase Mason, her parents, Petrus and Mabel Hoppenbrouwer, her brothers, Walter Hoppenbrouwer and James Hoppenbrouwer, her brothers-in-law, Q. Donald McCall, Jr., and Dana Lynn McCall. She is survived by her daughter Tina Amiss (Steve), her son, Kenneth “Kenny” H. McCall, Jr. (Dawn), her grandchildren, Crystal Street (Beau), Danielle Lemus (Ronald), Matt Worley, Hannah McCall, Maleyna McCall, Landon McCall, Rachel Butler (Rod), Jennifer Costa (James), 7 great grandchildren, her brother, Edward Hoppenbrouwer, her sisters, Mary Lindsey, Josephine Conner, Hilda Carder (Bob), Harriette Belter (Bill), her sister-in-law, Jane M. Pigford, her sister-in-law, Debbie McCall and daughter-in-law, Susan McCall and many loving nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. She is also survived by her special niece/daughter, Vivian Colgrove (John), and Sherry McCall, her special great niece Virginia Ennis (CJ), her adopted daughter, Kip Barefoot (Marty) and all her loving neighbors who always looked out for her, took care of her and checked on her daily. She retired from Meadowbrook High School where she worked in the cafeteria for many years. She made friends wherever she went, and she loved everyone. Her door was always open and the coffee pot was always brewing. She was truly one of those rare souls that we should all strive to be like. The family will receive friends 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, January 5, 2023 at Morrissett Funeral Home, 6500 Iron Bridge Road (Rte. 10). A funeral service is scheduled for 11am on Friday, January 6, 2023 at the funeral home. Interment will follow at Dale Memorial Park.
