Obituary

Gilliam Gerome Shelton, 97, of Chesterfield, went to be with the Lord on Monday, December 4, 2017. He was preceded in death by his wife of 69 years, Violet Shelton; parents, Virginius and Hazel Shelton; brothers, Ragland and Mason Shelton; and his sisters, Ruth Duncan and Evelyn Shiflett. He is survived by his daughters, Brenda Leonard (Gary) of Midlothian, VA, and Deborah Crews (Phillip Kennedy) of Tazewell, VA; grandchildren, Brenner Martin of Key Largo, FL, and Dennis Crews, Jr. (Amanda) of Johnson City, TN; great-granddaughter, Chloe Violet; sister-in-law, Nellie Wiltshire; nephew, Gary Wiltshire; and many other nieces and nephews. He was a WWII Army veteran who served in Company D, 28th Infantry Division in the European-African Middle Eastern Theater, earning two overseas service bars and two bronze battle stars. The family will receive friends from 12 to 1 p.m. on Thursday, December 7, 2017 (Pearl Harbor Day) at Morrissett Funeral and Cremation Service, 6500 Iron Bridge Rd. (Rt. 10). His graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. at Sunset Memorial Park, 2901 West Hundred Rd., Chester, VA.
