Obituary
Gloria Jean Averette, 78, of Midlothian, VA went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, February 7, 2024. She was born on April 21, 1945 in Richmond, Virginia to the late Lacy Elmer and Sarah Olivia Hailey. She is also preceded in death by her beloved husbands, Bill Bailey married for 22 years and Bobby Joe Averette married for 28 years; sister, Mildred Cooke; and brother, James Hailey.
Gloria is survived by her daughter, Lena Annette Harvey (Kenny); son, Richard Glenn Bailey (Carol); four grandsons, Jonathan Bailey (Jessica), Kevin Harvey (Kelsey), Nicholas Harvey, and Andrew Zodun (Bonnie); three granddaughters, Ashley Cole (Shawn), DeAnna Bailey (Dillion), and Stephanie Gregory (Ryan); six great-grandsons, Jake Bailey, Jack Bailey, Shane Zodun, Alex Zodun, Landon Finn, and Daniel Cole; four great-granddaughters, Kayla Jean Bailey, Kelsey Cole, Kayla Cole, and Breanna Cole; and a brother, Lacy Hailey, Jr.
Gloria Jean Bailey-Averette married Bill Bailey in 1963. She loved cookouts, parties, and any kind of gathering. She lived a happy life until Bill passed away in 1985. She had to reestablish herself. She went back to school and got her bachelor’s degree. She settled in a job at Richmond Public Schools helping retirees navigate through their benefits. She met Bobby Averette and got married in 1990. She loved to travel to Buckroe Beach, OBX and any other place her and Bobby could venture off to. She loved to go out to eat! They ate at O’Charley’s so often we renamed it O’Jeanie’s, going by her middle name. They even had a picture of her and Bobby on the wall beside the bar. She retired from Richmond Public Schools after 30 years of service. Unfortunately, Bobby passed away in 2018. She moved into a nursing home where she made many friends. She enjoyed spending time with her friends. If you were a friend, she would treat you like family. She loved giving gifts to people. If she knew there was something you collected or liked she would go out of her way to get it for you.
Gloria’s memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, February 15, 2024 at Morrissett Funeral & Cremation Service, 6500 Iron Bridge Road, North Chesterfield, VA 23234. In lieu of flowers the family suggests that memorial contributions may be made to your local animal shelter.

We are sending you prayers and love from Minnesota. We had the pleasure of meeting Jean once in NC after she married our Uncle Bobby Averette. What a wonderful and beautiful person.
Our Uncle Bobby adored her as did we ❤️
Love and prayers 🙏
