Obituary

Gordon Russell Simnett, born August 16, 1946, passed away on May 9th, 2026, after a long battle with cancer. He was brave and stoic until the very end.

He is a Vietnam veteran, having served on the USS Hanson from 1963 to 1967 and received many military decorations. He was a creative carpenter and the proud owner of Prince William Coin and Stamp Shop in Virginia. He was also an excellent calligrapher and took pride in his home, living alone for several years with his loving and loyal dog companions, Molly and Mikey. He also enjoyed socializing with friends at the friendship cafe get-togethers.

Gordon is preceded in death by his parents, William and Grace Simnett, his wife Gerry, and siblings Ronald and Dorothy. He is survived by his sister, Audrey, nieces; Karyn (John), Aimee, nephews; Justin and William, as well as many cousins. He is also survived by helpful and dedicated friends; Dave, Jean, Lynn, and Anne. Gordon will be very missed for his charming ways and wit.

A visitation for Gordon will be held on Thursday, May 21, 2026, from 10:00 AM – 12:00 PM at Morrissett Funeral and Cremation Service, 6500 Iron Bridge Rd., North Chesterfield, VA 23234. Friends and family will reconvene for a graveside service at 2:00 PM at the Virginia Veterans Cemetery at Amelia, 10300 Pridesville Rd, Amelia Court House, VA 23002.
