Obituary

It is with great sadness that the family of Gregory Linville announce his passing on November 13, 2022, at the age of 62 years.

Originally from Alum Creek, West Virginia, Gregory was born on February 5,1960 to Carlleal and Vada Linville, and was one of four siblings. He is survived by two sisters, Maryian Sloan and Angie Linville-Jones. He is preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Gary Linville.

Gregory graduated in 1978 from Duval High School, where he played football and met his high school sweetheart, Tresa Smith, who later became his wife of 42 years. In 1983 they moved to Chesterfield, Va and it was there they had their beloved son, Spencer Linville.

Greg’s career as a telecommunication specialist spanned 43 years, beginning with C&P when he was only 19. He retired from Verizon after 31 years and then worked for several years with Mastec, Inc. Greg had an easygoing personality and made lasting friends with many of his coworkers over the years.

Greg was an avid lover of the outdoors and nature. In his spare time, he enjoyed camping, fishing, and hiking, and spent many fun filled days at the beach. He possessed a wonderful sense of humor, and often kept his loved ones in stitches with his “antics.” Family was everything to Greg, and he made many wonderful memories with his in-laws, Willie and Mallie Breedlove, Ronnie and Tonya Smith, Tony and Peggy Smith, and Jack and Nada Smith. He leaves behind a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins, all of whom he loved dearly.

Greg was a gentle soul and had a great respect and love for all living things – great and small. He never turned down an opportunity to bring home a “stray”, who quickly became a permanent part of the family.

Family and friends are invited to meet at Morrissett Funeral and Cremation service on Saturday, December 3, 2022, at 11 am where we will proceed together to Dale Memorial Park, located at 10201 Newbys Bridge Road, for a graveside service at 12 pm. In honor of Greg’s love of animals, the family asks that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to your favorite animal humane society or shelter.

A celebration of Greg’s life will follow at 11061 Long Branch Drive, Chesterfield, Va. 23832
