Obituary
Gwen W. Byer, 79, of Hanover, VA passed away on Monday, September 29, 2025. She was born on April 22, 1946 in Richmond, VA to the late Frank Baker and Mary Amelia Wilcox.
She is survived by her husband, Gene “Butch” Byer; son, Scott Christopher Byer; Cousin, Cheryl Dunford; sister-in-law, Betty Byer Roberson; and Goddaughter, Amira Cherry.
Gwen was a giving and caring person, always putting others needs before her own. She was a member of Chester United Methodist Church and was a lifelong Methodist member. Gwen graduated from George Wythe High School. She was a senior member of JOB’s Daughters where she made many friends around the state and nationwide. Gwen was a member of Manchester Chapter OES. Gwen retired after over 30 years of service at the Federal Reserve Bank of Richmond. Gwen made her husband a better Christian man.
A visitation will be held from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Monday, October 6, 2025 at Morrissett Funeral & Cremation Service, 6500 Iron Bridge Road, North Chesterfield, VA 23234. Her funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, October 7, 2025 at Chester United Methodist Church, 12132 Percival Street, Chester, VA 23831. Reception following the service at the church. Interment will be private.
In lieu of flowers, make a contribution in Gwen’s name to Chester United Methodist Church Choir (checks can be sent to 12132 Percival Street, Chester, VA 23831 and/or online giving at www.chesterumc.org)

Gwen was truly a wonderful woman! I was one of her Honored Queen in 1975! She was a role model as I grew into adulthood. My mom and I along with the Davis family enjoyed many fun times filled with joy and laughter! She will be missed by all. Our deepest condolences to her family.
