Obituary
Harold Alexander Saunders, Jr. of Chester, VA, went to be with the Lord on Thursday, February 19, 2026. He was born on June 6, 1943, in Alexandria, Virginia, to the late Harold Alexander Saunders, Sr., and Mamie Louise Saunders of Schuyler, VA. He is preceded in death by his beloved wife, Elaine Saunders, and sister, Brenda Bulluck.
Harold is survived by his loving children, Mark Saunders (Suzanne), Paul Saunders (Paige), and Katherine Leinberger (Brian), and Karen Bradley; ten grandchildren: Benjamin, Matthew, Kendall, Sydney, Kaitlynn, Tyler, Cole, Preston, Landon, and Kinsley; six great grandchildren: Ellie, James, William, Hayden, Cooper, and Delaney; sister, Sharon Niccum; brother, Larry Saunders (Rhonda); and numerous nieces and nephews.
Although family and friends have always been a priority to Harold, he had a long and productive 41-year career at Dupont Fibers. During his time with Dupont, he began in the film plant and worked his way through the ranks, and he finished in the PT lab as a manager. After retirement, Harold enjoyed doing mission work with the church, working with Habitat for Humanity, and building handicap ramps with Project Homes. In addition to his service of others, Harold spent his life enjoying time with family and friends at home in Chester, or at his home away from home – Lake Gaston. Harold was the center of his family, a constant in their lives, and stayed involved in the lives of all his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, even during the hardest parts of his illness.

To The Family,
Please Accept My Heartfelt Condolences. Truly the loss of a precious love done is most difficult. Please find comfort in the promise our most loving Heavenly Father Jehovah God gives us in Revelation 21:4″And He will wipe out every tear from their eyes and death will be no more; neither will mourning; nor outcry; nor pain be anymore. The former things have passed away.” Yes, We can look forward to a time soon to come when all suffering including death will be done away with forever. HA was my dear cousin. Over the past years we were able to have a cousins reunion with all the cousins from HA’s mom’s family, My Aunt Mamie. (Adcock) I am forever thankful for that time. So many wonderful times were remembered from our childhood in Schuyler and Esmont.
In the last years, our cousins established a group chat and messaged regularly.
HA,, we will miss you so very much, your wit, strength, and optimism. In the face of all that you endured in the last year, you never complained. Always holding on to your faith and the love of your family.
Kathy and Karen, you are angels on earth for taking such great care of your father, always keeping us informed. My sincere condolences to all of the family at this time.
Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted. Matthew 5:4
