Obituary

MCPO Harvey P. Allen, 85, of N. Chesterfield, Virginia, passed quietly Tuesday, October 31, 2023 in Woodbridge, Virginia, his daughter with him. A decorated Vietnam veteran, he was a non-commissioned officer serving 32 years as an Electronics Technician in the US Navy. Harvey’s Navy tours of duty took him across this country & around the world: to the Far East aboard the USS Midway; Portland, Oregon; San Francisco, California; Long Beach, California; the West Pacific aboard the USS Navarro; Saigon, Vietnam; Denver, Colorado; Norfolk, Virginia; San Diego, California on the USS Dixon; Mayport, Florida & Naples, Italy. For his exemplary technical ability & leadership, the Navy Achievement, Navy Commendation, Navy Unit Commendation, Armed Forces Expeditionary, & Navy Expeditionary were among the medals awarded to him. In 1987, Harvey retired to Richmond & began his second career as a Phillip Morris Maintenance Supervisor. Harvey was many things to many people. During his life, he was a trombone player, Eagle Scout, theater doorman, smoke jumper, lumberjack, Little League Coach, camper, backpacker, wargamer, gardener, model railroader, avid seaman, Urbana Creek Yacht Club member, & overall grand adventurer. The 3rd of 4 children to Harvey Porter & Pearl Marie (Copenhaver), he is survived by his daughter Jenifer Teresa (Gary Shoemaker) of Woodbridge, Virginia; son Jeffrey Lynn (Debbie Hiraki) of Texas; stepdaughter Jeri Dianne Jolly (Daniel Cook) of Washington; 5 grandchildren: Rand Tripp of Idaho, Angela (Darin Lindig) of Idaho, Sally Kelly (Joey Jacobs) of Washington, Missy (Matthew Messa) of Washington, & Keith (Reesa Volgamore) of Kansas; & 10 great-grandchildren. He is predeceased by his parents; wife of 42 years Janice Rose Hebisen of Chesterfield, Virginia; siblings Peggy Arlene (Walter Burgess), Dorothy Jean (Donald Gleason), and James Robert, all of Oregon; son James Lee of Florida; granddaughter Laurie Beth Kelly of California, grandson Mitchell Lee Cornwell of Florida; and partner of 16 years Harriet Ann Sink of Virginia.

Family and friends are invited to visit Wednesday, November 8, 2023 at 10:00 AM at Morrissett Funeral and Cremation Service, 6500 Iron Bridge Road, Chesterfield, Virginia 23234. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM. Harvey will be buried with military honors at the Virginia Veterans Cemetery at Amelia at 2:00 PM.
