Obituary

Dyer, Herbert Gordon “Gordie”, 89, of Richmond, went to be with the Lord on Monday, December 24, 2007. He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Ora Browning Dyer; son, George E. Dyer and wife, Judy; daughters, Anne D. Bowman and husband, Johnny, Jean D. Mason and husband, Earl; sister, Hazel D. Caldwell; grandchildren, Sara Matthews and husband, Brent, Matthew Dyer and wife, Tammie, Mary Beth Kennedy, A.J. Bowman and wife, Starr, Marty Bowman, and Rusty Bowman and wife, Lynn; step-grandson, Leslie Mason III and wife, Melinda; 11 great-grandchildren and 2 step-great-grandchildren. Mr. Dyer served in the U.S. Army during WWII and was a member of Maple Camp 159, Woodmen of the World, Chesterfield Ruritan Club, Manchester Community Center, Manchester Volunteer Fire Department, Elkhardt Farmers Club, Branchs Baptist Church Brotherhood Sunday School Class, Baptist Men, and Deacon Emeritus, Richmond Light Infantry Blues Veterans Corps. Gordie retired from the U.S. Post Office and Ukrops Supermarket and donated many hours making Brunswick stew for area community organizations. The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 pm and 6 to 8 pm Friday at the Morrissett Funeral Home, 6500 Iron Bridge Rd. (Rt. 10). His funeral service will be held 11 am Saturday at the funeral home. Interment to follow in Dale Memorial Park.
