Obituary

Hilda Protzman Murrell, 94, Born March 23, 1926, went to her heavenly home on the most perfect day, December 25, 2020. She joined her husband, Zilmon T. Murrell; her beloved grandfather, Alfred Stroud; her parents, James L. and Amelia S. Protzman; her sisters, Elvia P. Bales and Eva Vernelle Firth; and brother, James A. Protzman. She is survived by her children, Rebecca T. Murrell (Rodney Grundy), and Michael K. Murrell (Karen); grandchildren, Emily M. Harman (Brian), and Matthew T. Murrell (Chelsea); and 4 great-grandchildren, Bailey and Kennedy Harman, and Conner and Harper Murrell. She was born at home in Chesterfield County, Va., where she resided her entire life. She was a 1943 graduate of Manchester High School. As a child, she attended Ramsey Memorial Methodist Church, and as a teen, she joined Central Baptist Church. After marrying, she joined Cowardin Avenue Christian Church in 1948, which later became Bethany Christian Church.

Hilda was one of the first women Elders in Bethany Christian Church, and at the end of her service she was made Elder Emeritus. She lived a life of service to her Lord, her husband, her family, and her church. She was also an avid fan of any sport her children and grandchildren played and rarely missed a game. She truly loved watching Emily and Matt compete and became a de facto grandmother to all of their teammates and always had a ready supply of pink lemonade, treats, and plenty of encouragement. Our family thanks her loving caregivers, Faye Osterbind, Denise Reynolds, and Sarah LaDuke. A graveside service will be held at a later date. Memorial contributions may be made to Bethany Christian Church, 5400 Forest Hill Ave., Richmond, Va. 23225.
